    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I really enjoyed my internship with Goldman Sachs and have discovered that working in Investment Banking is exactly what I want to do and Goldman Sachs is the perfect company for it.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • On account of the two review sessions and continuous informal feedback I was informed on a weekly, if not daily basis about my performance. I felt as a valued team member already during my first week and my colleagues always told me when I performed well.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I received a lot of support from the Business Unit Manager, my team as well as many senior people within the firm who made big efforts to support me and resolve issues which came up during my internship. It is absolutely not commonplace that seniors are involved to such an extent and I highly valued that.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • During the internship we did not work as long as our colleagues because of a newly established intern rule. On the one hand, I considered this to be a very good idea since the rule protected us from "overdoing" and helped us to find a "healthy" workload. However, on the other hand, it would have been great to experience the actual working hours which we will face as Analysts.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was amazed and positively surprised by the amount of responsibility I was able to assume as an intern. It showed my that I am valued, trusted and respected like an actual employee.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Although my colleagues have been very busy, they always took the time to answer all my questions. Therefore, I was really able to apply and further develop the skills which I had learned during the training session. After my first internship with GS in 2014, I have already noticed that these skills were very helpful for my accounting and finance courses and enabled a deeper understanding of the topics.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Although everyone was very busy, my colleagues nearly never seemed stressed and always took the time to make a joke or talk to you in order to further integrate you into the team. I really enjoyed being in the office catching up with my colleagues and sometimes grabbing a coffee together. We interns just had to ask for a catch-up and our colleagues really always had time for us. What I liked most was the fact that it was not just superficial smalltalk - your colleagues really became friends during the internship and we often discussed even private issues. Therefore, I am looking so much forward to joining the team next year.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Our HCM-Team perfectly organised the internship. Every week we received a schedule / timetable with all the intern events as well as calendar invites for every event. Thus, it was nearly impossible to miss a date. The 10 weeks were well structured and provided us with opportunities to practice, network and, of course, work. In addition, the HCM-team kept us informed about all organisational steps ahead and after the internship.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Intern training and development is of vital importance for Goldman Sachs. We had a professional training in the first week of our internship which provided us with the skills we needed to succeed during the internship. In addition, we were provided with many guides and information manuals. Furthermore, GS organised several senior speaker events in order to provide us with the very best insight and advice.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • I will start next year as an Investment Banking Analyst at Goldman Sachs.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The atmosphere within the intern group was just amazing! We met as often as somehow possible - especially during the weekend. I am still in touch with most of my fellow interns and I am looking forward to seeing many of them again next year.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is extremely expensive. Rent, food, going out as well as most of the activities are really not cheap and therefore, the overall cost of living during my internship was very high.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • London provides so many opportunities for going out! In the City, you will especially find several great pubs. Since the Uber network in London is great, the best clubs are also just a few minutes away.

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Since we did not work on Saturday, we usually used this day for sightseeing and meeting with friends and fellow interns. Of course, it is no secret that the working hours in investment banking are long and that there is not much time left for activities outside of work. However, I had the opportunity to use the weekend for everything I wanted to see and experience in London.
