The Role
Challenging work, meeting lots of interesting professionals and some very informative site visits.
Although lacking in technical knowledge felt respected and trusted to do proper work, and spoken to on equal terms.
Boss is an industry expert who talked through issues with us regularly, sharing a lot of knowledge. Other colleagues very supportive, even when busy.
Periods of boredom mainly related to waiting for data, if looking for extra tasks colleagues could find additional, appropriate tasks.
Responsible for research of real importance to company, trusted to work by ourselves to complete project without being micromanaged.
Have much improved knowledge of power systems, the electricity market and a clearer picture of how careers can develop after uni- something to target, has increased motivation. Practiced and improved data manipulatino skills, research-type nature of project good practice for uni projects.
The Company
Everyone polite and friendly, people work hard but talk from time to time.
Good induction day, and great conference for power academy members. Access to technical experts and most of the necessary resources- there were some permission issues with accessing data files on the server.
Book and software grants available, encouraged to improve communication and presenting skills. To recieve bursary for this academic year, and another placement with National Grid next summer.

There are many industries perhaps more exciting than electricity transmission however NG provide a clear career path, excellent skill development and good benefits. Many graduates have recommended joining the graduate scheme after uni.
The Culture
Lived with several and lived near several more. Gathered regularly for excursions and spent a lot of time together.
Pubs a little pricey, living costs average to low.
Many very pleasant pubs in the area and a couple of crowded clubs.
Football and volunteering opportunities e-mailed round. Newnet, an organization for new starts at NG offered a few events.
