The Role
Very much, I was challenged throughout the internship and have made many friendships along the way. I was given the correct amount of support, allowing me the freedom to move my project in the direction that I want, yet enough help that I never felt I was overwhelmed in a field I had no experience in.
My project will be put into use next year. It has been taken by the company and used as a basis for all future projects.
I was given not only 1 supervisor, but 2. We had near daily meetings and on top of this, a higher up overview support from a mentor and a sponsor.
Very, hours were 8am-4pm, but the moment work hours were over, we were not expected to work. "If you have work, make sure its done, I won't babysit you or timekeep you. You should live up to the expectations that we have of you" - my supervisor.
I was tasked with a groundbreaking project that had never been attempted before. If the project was successful, then there could be implications to processes in the UK and across all Shell operating areas.
The softer skills mainly - presenting and relationship building. The confidence to ask for help when you need it and a reinforcement of time management skills etc.
The Company
Tough times for the oil industry at the moment - but still, staff were always cheerful and happy to help whenever you asked for it.
Very, clear structure from HR, given plenty of information with the selection and assessment process.
Huge amounts. My supervisors would be spending about half their day talking to me and making sure I understood everything that I needed to do.

I am accepting the job offer with them.
The Culture
Much like universities, there is a graduate support structure in place, although the interns are all put together in a halls of residence for the duration - there were no issues with not knowing people etc. Graduates were also very willing to mingle with the interns and vice versa.
Relatively high, but certainly not higher than London. Could get away with a night out for £20 and come back with change.
Sometimes can be a little questionable, but always made for an interesting night out and great morning after debrief.
There were events set up every other week.
