The Role
I loved it! Best summer of my life... Kept busy with impactful work, great social life with the other interns, and was very well looked after by the company!
I felt like the work I was doing was actually meaningful, much more so than previous internships! However I didn't feel like they completely trusted me to do it correctly, but that is to be expected!
Officially, you have a manager, who looks after the career and work aspect, and a buddy, who you can go to a lot more informally and ask anything you want... I got quite close with both of them and so I found I could ask them anything! They were always telling me I should ask them more questions whenever I had them... I was worried I was nagging them but they said it was a really good thing to be ask! Always there when I needed them too, do felt very supported.
Always had something to do... The project I was given was perfectly sized, with me finishing it to a really good standard in the last week! There were a few times I was stressed, but I just told my manager and he always helped me to get past what I was stuck on.
I had an expected amount of responsibility, given the industry... I was pretty much limited to my project for the most part, but it was extremely involved with the rest of the code base.
Technically, I only used skills I had known before, like Java, or won't be much use outside of this firm, like proprietary software. I did learn to use SVN but not sure how long that will be around outside of large enterprises! However, I got to practice a lot of functional skills, like conference calling and presenting. I also had to propose and defend my ideas to reach consensus, which was a lot of fun and good to practice!
The Company
My team were absolutely lovely... Really hard working, very kind and fun, and they made me feel very welcome. They seemed to really value my time there, giving me an absolutely awesome leaving present! And we had a great few nights out...
It was incredibly well managed, the campus recruiting team did a fantastic job! They were lovely people who were always available to talk to, and would do regular check ups on you! The tech recruiter even learnt the names of all the 100 tech interns!! Events were really well organised too.
The technical skills training was very good, although aimed more at beginners than at computer science students, so for some of us it wasn't very useful. Your manager decides which trainings you should go to, and my manager suggested it would be good to go to them, as a networking opportunity rather than a learning one. The functional trainings where pretty generic, yet were interesting. I would have liked to have seen more on how to present well etc

I received and accepted an offer for a job with them, starting after I complete my 4th year at university. The lifestyle of working there is very appealing, as you are well looked after, and challenged every day. The compensation is more than decent also!
The Culture
The social life over the internship was immense, going out most nights and doing things over the weekend. Paintballing was awesome! I'd suggest making a whatsapp group with everyone you meet as soon as possible... I did that and by the end of the week had three chats with more than >80 people! Booking a space in a club for 40+ people was a fun experience...
London is expensive! And I didn't get first pay until 6 weeks in to internship... Had to borrow from family! Luckily I found a flat with 3 other uni mates in Camden, for £150 a week which included bills and linen, which was best deal we could have got!! So be prepared...
Area around work place was medium priced, with a few good places like Yager, the Blackfrairs and the Last! Not many clubs but that's ok, london is easy to get around... Shoreditch is fun!
They made it clear and invited you to all their social clubs like football... I never joined one so I couldn't say!
