The Role
I really enjoyed my 6 week internship at EY. It was a really insightful experience and enabled me to gain first hand experience of what working in Tax is like.
I was accepted as part of the team and was constantly asked how I was finding the experience. Towards the end of the internship, the team arranged a leaving lunch for the interns which was very accommodating of them.
Although my manager (who was also my counsellor) was busy, I was given the opportunity to schedule in meetings in to her calendar. She ensured that she assisted me in meeting my development goals which I set out in the first meeting.
There was definitely not a day where I had absolutely nothing to do. On most days, the work load was enough to keep us busy for the day.
I can definitely say that I have learnt a lot about taxation laws in the UK. I believe this would be beneficial in whilst studying certain Economics modules. I also learnt the importance of being confident in yourself which has made me more outspoken in seminars.
The Company
In general, people were very friendly and open to answer questions. As an intern, I was not afraid to communicate with directors and partners because of the friendliness in the office.
The internship was conducted really well. The induction was very informative about the policies of the firm. During the duration of the internship, we were given the opportunity to attend partner breakfasts, and we also had a team of student recruitment we could always contact if we needed help.
Even though we were interns, we were treated as employees who would be continuing at the firm. We did a number of web based learning. We also had access to the training courses that were available to permanent staff.
This is one of the things I love most about EY. They are very invested in the development of their staff and as a result they want their employees to continue to grow. I met a number of people who had started off as graduates and had made it to partner level. If you work hard, the opportunities are there to further your career.
The Culture
I have met a number of fellow interns who I will definitely be keeping in touch with. We regularly had lunch together at the office and went out after work occasionally. I also attended events with members of my team.
