The Role
The internship was a highly rewarding experience. During the 6 weeks I worked on 3 different clients in 3 different locations. I've been assigned to teams that were very supportive and willing to help me gain as much as I can from this internship.
Although the tasks given to me during the internship were fairly easy and administrative, the teams that I worked with were extremely supportive. They took the time to get me up to speed with the on-going projects, explain to me what they were doing and what the scope of each project was.
From the very beginning of my internship I expressed my interest in some specific industries and my counsellor and managers ensured to get me on projects related to these. I had to create a progression plan that I shared with my counsellor and I was also given suggestion in terms of objectives to try to achieve during the internship. Both my managers and counsellor were extremely supportive in helping me meet these objectives and provide me with regular feedback.
Depending on the project, on some days I was fairly busy with having to complete my tasks on time and having to meet specific deadlines. On other days I sometimes had some free time to complete various online trainings and familiarise myself with other aspects related to the company.
I wasn't given too much responsibility as the projects were complex and already on-going when I joined for my internship. The time period was also quite short for an intern to be given significant responsibilities/
It was more about the knowledge gained about the industry and about the projects that my teams worked on rather than skills perhaps. I thoroughly enjoyed everything that I learned about the company and the industry in which it operates. it gave me a great understanding of what would be required within a grad job and the type of people that the company is looking for.
The Company
I was more at client sites rather than in the office. However I got to spend a few days both in the Birmingham as well as the London office where the atmosphere was very professional but in the same time all the colleagues, no matter their position, were extremely helpful and friendly.
It was very well organised. We had a buddy and a counsellor assigned to help us with our objectives. We had partner shadowing day, social events, team lunches etc. organised throughout the internship which made it extremely interesting and varied.
I attended a few days of induction in Manchester where I got the chance to meet the interns from all the regional offices and receive the initial training and introduction about the company. This was followed by at-desk training and online training that were sometimes either mandatory or optional. All in all there was an adequate amount of time and resources invested in my training given the period of the internship.
National Travel
Working from home
I got offered a graduate job about a month after my internship ended.
The Culture
There were regular social events organised at all the regional offices.
