The Role
Working for Atkins was very enjoyable, everyone was very friendly and my time there definitely helped improve my skills as a civil engineer.
I feel like the work i did was valued as similar work that was being completed by graduates so i was very happy with this.
Any time i had any questions no matter how silly they seemed everyone was keen to help as best as they could.
Some weeks i was extremely busy even to the point where i was in to 7pm on 2 occasions however there were some days where there was barely enough work to keep me busy..
I was given the same responsibility as any new graduate would have got.
As i am going into my final year of study the skills gained give me a more realistic idea of what industry will be like once i graduate.
The Company
Fairly relaxed, we got down to work when required but everyone was easy to talk to.
I think it could have been better organised to make the most of me while i was at the company and give me much more relevant experience instead of having to drag work out as there was nothing left for me to do.
The company only really invested the time of its employees to bring me up to speed with how to do things, being there for 11 weeks i never really expected to be sent on a training course.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I would very much like to go back however would hope that time management of my managers was much better.
The Culture
Being a design office i found the people where much younger than the employees at my previous placement (in a contractor) and therefore it was much easier to talk to them and play sports together.
I had a flat in the area anyway so no more than what i was spending already (~£250/month)
On the weekends there seemed to be things to do with fellow employees however due to sports commitments i never really got to take advantage of these.
The company had a 5 aside court booked and a squash court booked every week.
