About You
The insight was a good way to get involved with the firm and meet other like-minded people who had a range of life and academic experiences.
The firm made everyone feel valued through inductions and social events that were organised by HR. My department also organised drinks for leavers and the other vac schemer and I in the department were invited too!
Support was provided through a trainee buddy and a supervisor. Everyone in the department and firm was very friendly and willing to point you in the right direction. Being able to sit with associates and a partner during the scheme meant that there was lots of exposure.
The induction training programmes given at the beginning of the scheme will provide useful in legal research, especially for those who had not undertaken a law degree, and even for those who had, it served as a concise reminder. The skills you develop whilst working with real-life law will allow me to understand the law in a more practical context during my degree.
The Company
The scheme was very well structured, with training and social events provided throughout. The group project, Project Nabarro, was more independent, as this was to be done outside of working hours but could still take place in the firm.
The atmosphere at Nabarro is great - everyone is dedicated and hard working, but they also know how to enjoy themselves! This was demonstrated by the many social events we had, such as the Treasure Hunt, the Pub Quiz and Partner Dinner.
The firm invested by giving us training inductions at the beginning of the scheme, as well as providing a trainee buddy and supervisor who was on hand to answer any questions that we had. As the weeks went on and we became more integrated in the firm, we were trusted with more challenging tasks, which enhanced personal development.
The vacation scheme provided a great insight as we had a well-rounded experience. The work I was given was of a trainee-level standard and this helped me to understand what a full time role would be like. Furthermore, the range of activities outside of work encouraged us to understand what a role at Nabarro would be like.
The culture at Nabarro is evident through the work and ethos that they maintain. Everyone is friendly and welcoming, and more than happy to explain concepts. Both my trainee buddy and supervisor were great at finding me work, and encouraging me to seek work from others within the department. This culture is evident throughout the whole firm.
Being able to spend three weeks in one department was a great experience, that consolidated my decision in regards to my future career path.
Everything Else
The vac scheme paid £275 per week.
There were many opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company and those within the property field. These events were organised by HR and often involved a wide range of members of the firm. There was a range of formal and informal events such as the pub quiz, post-work drinks, Partner dinner, to name a few. We were also given a session on how to network with handy tips and advice before a networking session.
The networking and social event opportunities were well balanced with the work that we had to do within the firm. The inclusion of Breakfast Briefings following a scheduled social was a good opportunity to practise time-management skills. Furthermore, Project Nabarro was a good way to get to know other vac schemers, whilst preparing for a presentation.
There were many activities that employees could get involved with outside of work such as the pro bono initiatives (especially the Nabarro day), the charity of the year events, and sporting events. These were relayed to us through the Breakfast Briefings as well as discussion with a number of different people throughout the firm.
I would absolutely recommend Nabarro’s vacation scheme to a friend. The three week experience in one department is unique and allows you to get a real insight into the firm, and to understand the welcoming and friendly culture that Nabarro endorses. This culture is further embodied by the number of social events arranged by HR for the vac schemers to get to know each other and other members of the firm.
