The Role
I really enjoyed most of the work I was given and felt like I could commit time to work I was interested in by building the business case for projects I felt were relevant or for which I had a passion.
Incredibly supportive team, that offered me guidance at the beginning when I needed it and then were encouraging when I took on more independent work and responsibilities. A fantastic little team who encouraged me to learn and develop well.
Fantastic line manager who genuinely wanted me to succeed and gave me responsibilities and bigger roles than I would have imagined.
Manageable workload. I have been busy, but I have not had to work very long or strenuous hours - just hard durig the work day.
Lots - presented at a large ExCo meeting and was given the role of project manager for a new project which has scope across the business.
The Company
While I worked in the main London office some of the time, when I was in Northampton there were only one or two other interns so there was perhaps a lack of an intern experience in a social sense. My team, however, were friendly and I didn't find the team environment dull at all.
The events were well organised and the placements were communicated about well, however they were not clear from the beginning about the specific requirements for the graduate programme - i.e. they didn't state that you were not eligible to be signed onto the graduate programme if you performed well for when you graduated if you had just finished your second year of a four year degree.
I feel that the work in my team allowed me to develop, and the exposure they gave us to talks by senior Barclays colleagues was valuable, however I would have liked the opportunity to do more training or skills development courses while I was on my placement.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Appealing but I am slightly discouraged by the fact that as a 2013 graduate on a 4-year programme I cannot be fast-tracked in the same way as someone graduating in 2012, even if I have performed very strongly.
The Culture
I feel that had I been based in London, there would have been, but I felt about out of the mix of the intern social scene to start with being placed in a different location with few other interns.
