The Role
Very interesting work with useful feedback, growth opportunities, and challenges.
Your first week of work will impact your colleagues.
You will be given guidance but also be stretched. If you can handle difficult tasks your tasks will get more difficult.
At busy points you're more likely to be very stretched/running out of work, but mostly your time will be managed very well.
This is my second placement here, and I'm allowed to touch every line of code for some very large company products. Code review is taken seriously.
Metaswitch does "ACE" - assessed communication exercises. Nothing to be worried about - just a presentation with feedback, which I found extremely useful.
The Company
Weekly sports, nice night-life culture, and other organised fun. The average age is quite mature, and this year there were few interns, so it could have been better. Some quiet days at the office during crunch time.
Well-optimised.
I have a broad and detailed understanding of the company's structure, technical knowledge of many of its products, the state of the industry, the company's goals, etc. I have also been pushed towards technical knowledge in areas I was not yet adept.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Metaswitch seeks to understand your opinion on their prospects and pushes to accommodate you.
The Culture
There were only four of us in my office this year, which I think has the biggest impact.
Many students live in the city so there's something for everyone, but, like the rest of the UK, nothing is cheap.
If you're not from Edinburgh, all I can say is "Fringe Festival".
Yes.
