The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my 6 week internship with EY. They provided me with a solid foundation of the working world. It was definitely an insight that I would recommend to other people and definitely a place I can see myself working for in the future. The internship was a great place to get a feel of how the work would be like if I joined on a permanent basis.
The people at EY is definitely a unique selling point of the firm. Everyone is so helpful and willing to help, whether if they were other associates or even partners who have been at the firm for many years. The working environment is something I really enjoyed, and it felt a bit like home. Whereby, everyone will tell you the truth and would give you a fabricated answer to anything you wanted
At you will be given a counsellor and a buddy, where you can reach out to and ask questions, whether they are work related or just general life support. Furthermore, in your teams there will always be someone willing to help. As there is a hierarchy structure where there will be individuals who have been where you were not long ago and people who have experienced what you are going through.
I joined during down season in audit so I wasn't incredibly busy and most of the time when I was it was because we had a deadline for a client. But I have heard depending on the clients / time of the year, you can be very busy or not very busy at all. But for the most part I think it is a very good balance if you compare it to other companies in the financial sector. This is definitely a reason why I will be going back.
I was given work that a standard first year associate would be doing, so I was treated as part of the team. Executives and managers would be giving me work that was signed off by them so it was rather important in that sense. But as to how important it was in the overall perspective, I am not sure. It felt like I was given a fair amount of responsibility as to the position I was in.
The skills I developed while I was at EY, where more interpersonal skills rather than anything technical due to the short period of time I was there. For example, communication with clients, teamwork and organisational skills. These will all help me in the future when it comes to the workplace, As to whether it assisted my degree studies I would say it did at all. This was a very good opportunity to zone in on my networking skills as well.
The Company
The atmosphere in the office was wonderful. There was never a dull moment especially as I was with other interns who like to enjoy themselves. The office is well equipped with social activities, so if you were getting a bit bored you can take a breather and regroup. This I thought was a very good idea. Furthermore, there is a large range of social areas in the office which allows you to catch up with colleagues and friends. A very social place to be.
The first week of my internship was pretty much just training and an introduction to the company and to the work that was necessary. I thought this was unnecessary as we all know what we were getting involved in as well all interviewed and got through to that stage. Otherwise, though while we were actually working it seemed like there was always something going on, whether it was a social or if it was work related. It was a very enjoyable time.
The firm did a lot to make us get the most out of our time on the internship. They pushed us to seek other opportunities and other ideas of what we wanted from the time at EY.

I received an offer from EY after completing my internship with them. As to the appeal of the organisation. I believe the scope to get up the ladder is very high and good. As I was speaking to people who said you could be made partner within 10 years. Which of course is a drawing point to the job. Furthermore, at EY they will allow me to complete the ACA which will help my future employment prospects, as there are always needs for people who are professionally qualified at a highly regarded firm.
The Culture
The social scene amongst other interns where brilliant. There was so many events during the week that we could get involved in. The other interns would love to relax after work, therefore, the work-life balance was really good. With colleagues it was less so as they have more responsibility, but there were very much social events we were invited to and could have partaken in. In general, at EY the social scene is very good and definitely another reason as to why I will be joining them in the future.
Worked in London, therefore, the cost of living and socialising is bound to be a lot higher than other parts of the country. But depending on where you are living and what you are doing it can be okay.
London! The nightlife is always wonderful
So so many. I could even name half of the activities that EY offered.
