The Role
I found my internship highly enjoyable and rewarding with the range of work that I was given. By working with colleagues and supporting various projects, I believe that this enabled me to gain a real insight into the work of the team as well as further my understanding of the business.
I enjoyed working with the team and alongside other colleagues. I feel that I was able to approach them with any questions I had during my placement.
Through weekly one-to-one meetings with my line manager, I was able to keep him updated on the tasks that I had been working on and my progress over the ten weeks. I found the weekly catch-up meetings useful as I was able to obtain regular feedback from my manager throughout the internship.
By being involved in various pieces of work and asking around the team if there was anything that I could help with, I was able to keep myself busy on a range of tasks. I feel that this allowed me to gain a good insight into the role as well as develop my understanding of the team.
In any piece of work that I was involved with, I was responsible in ensuring that I completed the work within timescales as the result of my task usually formed a component of a wider project.
I believe that I have been able to develop key transferrable skills over the ten-week placement, including communicating effectively and ensuring that work produced is delivered with a clear and logical approach. I know that these skills will help me in my final year at university as well as going forward in the work environment.
The Company
I very much enjoyed working in the office as there was a nice atmosphere and bond among colleagues, creating a pleasant working environment. Even though people would be busy with work, I found everyone was friendly and that the open plan of the office floor enabled colleagues to interact with and support each other.
I found that the internship overall was set up very well, with regular emails keeping us updated with the progress of the placement allocations and then to the open event where we had some introductory talks and were able to meet the other Scholars and interns. The first day at the office was then a good opportunity to meet the team and to then be involved in various pieces of work throughout the placement.
I found that there were opportunities throughout the placement to personally develop, including a range of webinars as well as speaking to other colleagues and finding out about their role and the industry more generally. In addition, being part of the Lloyds Scholars programme has helped contribute to my learning through development weekends as well as having a mentor to provide support and guidance.
Having enjoyed my ten-week internship, I was delighted to learn at the end of the placement that I had been offered a place on the Graduate scheme.
The Culture
I was provided accommodation in London along with fellow Scholars and interns working the same area. This was a brilliant opportunity to meet other interns and to do things together in the evenings and at the weekend. Being in London, there was naturally a lot on during the weekends allowing us to spend good time together.
It was slightly more expensive in London compared to other places in the country.
Living in London, there was naturally a lot going on at night including a range of nightclubs across the city.
Living with other Scholars and interns, this provided us with many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work, from going for a meal in the evening to going out in London during the weekend.
