The Role
I found working for KPMG to be a great experience. I wasn't entirely sure what to expect as I had never worked in an office before coming there, but everybody was really friendly and seemed interested in making my experience as useful as possible. I would definitely recommend it for anybody looking for an internship.
I felt very valued by my colleagues during my time at the company. Even though most of them were quite busy, they would always take the time to explain something to me if I did not understand it, and they made an effort to find meaningful work for me to do.
I felt I was given a good level of support my my supervisors. I had a 'buddy' who made sure that I was settling in well and was set up correctly on the system, and I was also assigned a manager who made sure that I was happy and had the right amount of work to do. Finally, everybody else who I worked with was always willing to support me with anything I may have been stuck on.
For most of the internship I was given a good level of work - I wasn't overly busy but there was a reasonable amount of things to do and people would always try to find me work if I asked for it. There were some days where there was not a huge amount of work to do, but I think that is true with a lot of summer internships.
I felt that I learned a lot whilst I was there, even though it was only for four weeks. The exposure to business that I got whilst I was there will help with business modules, however, the main skills that I got from the job was improved time-management, which is something that I hope will be useful in university and beyond.
The Company
I thought that the atmosphere in the office was good - everybody was really friendly and seemed to support each other. Before I started the internship I was slightly apprehensive that the atmosphere would be overly competitive and aggressive but I found it wasn't like that at all - everyone was helpful to both me and each other.
I thought that the work placement was generally well organised - I had an induction to help me understand the basics of what I was doing, and there were people to support me if there was anything else that I needed explaining to me whilst I was there. I did have a problem with my laptop on the first day (they had sent it to the wrong building) however that was very quickly resolved and didn't impede me much.
KPMG gave me a lot of opportunity for development - there were sessions for all of the interns on personal growth, and I also learned a lot whilst doing the job. They also invest a lot in their graduates - no matter what role you come in as there is an opportunity to gain professional qualifications - which is one of the reasons I was attracted to working for them.

At the end of the internship I was offered a graduate job with them. They also let me defer this job for a year after I graduate - I was very pleased that they allowed me this flexibility. I am very much looking forward to working for them - I really enjoyed my internship and I think that working for KPMG will be a great place to start my career.
The Culture
The cost of living was pretty high in Canary Wharf, however, I think that is just the nature of working in London. I lived at home during my internship meaning my own expenditures were fairly low. KPMG also offer a subsidized canteen, meaning I didn't spend much on food, which was very nice.
