The Role
I had a really good time at EY. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and friendly, it felt like everyone was happy to have me there, felt quite sad to leave to go back to uni.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. They were always able to help me or try and give me work to do.
There were numerous people who I could go to with any problem I had as well as several face to face meetings to go over what I had been getting up to, if I was enjoying myself, to see if anything was wrong and whether there was anything I would like to experience whilst there.
The only bad thing about the whole internship was that there were periods I was very quiet. A lot of the work that was going on in the department was quite technical and therefore it wasn't that easy to get me involved in some projects other than for administration work.
Quite a lot. A lot of the tasks I got involved with were dealing directly with clients.
It has taught me to manage my time a lot better.
The Company
The atmosphere was great. There was a lot of banter going round but everyone still seemed to get lots of work done which was impressive. I was made to feel right at home from the start. It almost felt like a big family.
It was incredibly well organised, from the induction week in London to getting set up in the office and leaving. Only bad thing I could think of was that there were periods when I was quiet and struggled to find work. I managed to get some experience in other departments when I was quiet sometimes though which was really good.
I got offered a job so pretty good haha.
The Culture
Everyone in the office was very pally. A lot of my colleagues would be doing stuff after work and ask me to join in.
Aberdeen rent prices are a bit of a joke thanks to the oil & gas industry and landlords are more than happy to exploit this. Other than that it's pretty great, loads of different bars and restaurants and some awfully amazing student clubs.
It's really good midweek when everything is cheap and fun. On Saturdays certain clubs get swarmed by oil money which is a bit rubbish if you're a student...
I was asked several times a week to join my colleagues in something or other. Squash and boot camp were the most popular requests for me to join.
