The Role
This placement, whilst hugely beneficial was amazingly enjoyable. I loved working in such a dynamic department with so many students.
I was treated like a full time member of staff as opposed to a placement student.
The 1:1 tutoring given was amazing.
I found I was incredibly busy however I wanted to put the hours in as I enjoyed my work.
I was allowed to plan an execute my own studies and given the freedom and resources to do this.
I feel much more confident in my ability to complete my degree and a PhD after doing a placement.
The Company
The office was 'hot seating' where you could move around and sit where you liked each day. This made for a fun and dynamic environment.
The scheme is well established and has been run for a long time. It is therefore incredibly well organised.
They gave me a grant to go to training outside of GSK and supported me in any extra study I wished to do.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I plan to complete a PhD first however job prospects with GSK are great and I would love to work for them.
The Culture
There was a student union who organised events, much alike a student union. They organised nights out etc. which were great.
Being near London it was fairly expensive.
Stevenage is a fairly small town so nightlife isn't great. However there are 25 minute trains to London so this didn't really matter.
The student union organised many many activities so there was plenty of opportunity for this.
