The Role
Had an absolutely fantastic year with Fujitsu and couldn't of wished for a better start to my career. The amount of responsibility given was brilliant, and although it was stressful at times, I got so much out of it. Fantastic team, fantastic industry, fantastic organisation
100% valued by each and every colleague, whether they were in my team or not. A really sense of friendliness throughout the company. Once people learnt that you I was an intern, people were bending over backwards to help me with whatever they could, provide me with new experiences, and when I left, to give me good reviews.
My manager(s) found a great balance between supporting me with any work, and giving me the freedom to make my own decisions. Although they were sometime difficult to get a hold of due to there very much being an email culture throughout the company, I felt that I could ask anyone for help and they would be more than happy to assist in any way they could.
There were peaks and troughs in the work load, but the majority of the time I found myself with enough to be getting on with. There were times when I was left with nothing to do, which were extremely boring, but those days were few and far between. No day was the same and I found myself trying new bits and pieces every day.
I was given a huge amount of responsibility. I was always careful to consult with my manager when unsure, but the majority of the time, I was left to get the job done.
I learnt more in my year in industry than I ever have done at University. I have found myself approaching the new year as if it were a job. My organisational and time keeping skills have improved significantly, as has my writing style. I would encourage anyone thinking about taking year's placement to DO IT! The experience is so, so valuable!
The Company
The atmosphere of the office was fantastic. My team were always very friendly, and I often found myself talking to them about out of office things such as what films they had seen, or had they watched the football etc. We spent a lot of time doing out of hours stuff together also- Karaoke was always a classic. Overall, not what I expected from a white collar office atmosphere- so much fun and so many laughs!
Unfortunately, the person who was supposed to be my direct line manager left a week before I joined, so responsibility for me was chucked around a little toward the beginning. However, as soon as I was settled and a manager had been decided, everything was great. The HR guys were always there to make sure we were all doing ok also.
Massively so- I attended several training sessions, some of which were more than one day experiences. The mandatory online learning and development courses, although slightly dull, also developed my knowledge of the industry and the organisation massively.

The Culture
Unfortunately my base location was different to most of the other students, therefore I didn't see them as much. However, intern events such as the CSR challenge kept us all in constant communication and when we did see each other, it was great!
Very, Very expensive. My base location was in London, and the job came with no London weighting. Therefore my salary was the same as those living in Reading. Their rent was over half what mine was. However, as long as you're good at budgeting, you should have enough to have an enjoyable year and enjoy the occasional leisure activity.
I lived in London and it was great- expensive, but great. S many different places to go and try, which are all part of the experience.
There were so many opportunities outside of work hours. Our team held quarterly meal and karaoke nights which were a lot of fun. The office also made a dodgeball team, were we competed in a local social league and then went to the pub afterwards.
