The Role
I absolutely loved my placement with Lidl. The 11 months was challenging and rewarding, choosing Lidl was one of the best decisions I've ever made!
My colleagues were welcoming and valued me as a member of the team in every department. The work I produced was always appreciated.
The Regional Training Manager provided excellent support and guidance throughout the placement, ensuring that I was getting the most out of each department. The training team in Head Office were also really helpful and supportive.
It varied with department, every day was a busy day in store! I was always provided with tasks or projects, never sat twiddling my thumbs.
I was given a substantial amount of responsibility with the tasks and projects I was set. I was also provided with the opportunity to run a team in store.
The skills I have developed have been invaluable and will certainly help me in my final year. The training I received can be applied to future jobs, such as interview and recruitment training.
The Company
There was always a great atmosphere in every department. There was always a slightly different culture in each department, which enhance my ability to adapt to new working environments
On my first day I was given a plan for the year that outlined the placement, showing where I would be on what date, it was very well organised. The only thing I had to do was choose which departments I wanted to spend my time in!
Lidl invested massive amounts of time and training into the placement students. I was provided with the opportunity to participate in training sessions for area managers, attend regional meetings and was always given great training when going into a new department.
National Travel
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Above 25 days holiday
The graduate scheme is very appealing!
The Culture
During the national meetings, all the placement students from the UK attended and they were always great fun. During the 2 weeks in Head Office in Wimbledon, the social scene was great as we went out in London and went to the theatre.
Cost of living was reasonable, I had to move away so had to pay rent. Socialising was very reasonable too as there wasn't a great social scene at the Distribution Centre!
Not brilliant, but after working in store all day I was generally too tired to go out!
Not particularly. There are always charity events being organised but I didn't get round to being involved in any.
