The Role
I found my placement at ARUP great. It gave me a great insight into the world of work in my chosen profession.
I felt very valued by my colleagues. I felt like I belonged, whether it be the simple 'good mornings' at the start of the day or even participating in the social football on a Thursday evening.
I honestly was not given much support in one of the roles I had to do but that was a test from my manager which I thankfully passed. He was testing whether I could complete a task without somebody holding my hand and I managed to do just that.
I was constantly busy, all day every day. I love this though because I didn't spend any time slacking and felt like I was helping the teams I was involved with.
I was given a great deal of responsibility as it was my role to complete the first draft of an important document that the company were actually going to use.
The skills and experience I have gained on my placement are going to be critical in helping me find a job once I graduate. I believe having experience at such a prestigious firm will help me excel in my chosen career path.
The Company
Everybody was very friendly and also very approachable if I ever felt that I had a problem. There is a time and a place for a joke and we would have a bit of banter every now and again but at the end of the day I was there to work so I ensured there wasn't too much joking around.
The internship was managed very well. I knew members of the HR team personally and they told me to come to them with any issues regarding my placement and any issues I brought to them they resolved instantly.
I was told what I needed to do and I done it. The only training I received is the basic health and safety at work training. In regards to my job role I was left to my own devices as if I was a working professional.

I aim to work with ARUP once I graduate. I have filled out my application and desperately hope I am successful.
The Culture
As mentioned before, I played football on a Thursday with a few colleagues but I do not think I was there long enough to develop any relationships to going out other than that.
I was living at home.
I enjoy Solihull's night-life but I prefer Birmingham.
Yes, apart from football there were plenty of opportunities for other activities.
