    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • This scheme was really really enjoyable! The trainees and HR worked hard to ensure that everybody had a great time. The open plan offices provide a great working atmosphere as it really does feel quite non-heirarchical. There was a lot on during the scheme and we were always encouraged to chat to as many people as possible and take part in as much as possible!

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The further along the scheme I went the more I felt valued by my colleagues. The calibre of the work given to me was interesting and people always had time to properly feedback on any task I had completed.

    3/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The current trainees looked after us so well! They were incredibly helpful and friendly and always inviting us to have lunch with them or go for drinks after work. My supervisors in each of the three seats did make sure I had interesting work to do and provide a lot of feedback to HR. This all culminates in a half hour feedback session on the last day of the scheme. This was a great as it meant that I left the scheme knowing what I had done well and what I needed to improve on!

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I did have a constant stream of work to do although I had to be quite proactive to keep the flow fo work going for the full three weeks!

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • There was a certain amount of responsibility involved in writing articles for client publications. I did a lot of this in the first week of placement in particular. This was a great way for me to get to grips with some complex areas of the law.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • We had fantastic IT training at the beginning of the scheme. I went in thinking that i didn't need training in Word, Excel or Powerpoint but actually learnt a huge amount that will definitely be useful in the future!

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The atmosphere was fairly relaxed in the office although the open plan structure did mean that everybody was scared to make too much noise!

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The scheme was very well organised and the social events were particularly well thought out to allow us to get to know as many people as possible! We were kept busy with activities throughout the scheme which was particularly useful if the departments were a little quiet (as they often are in the summer!)

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The training we had was very extensive! As this was my first experience of life in a large law firm, I was slightly aprehensive about my lack of knowledge but I never felt like I was at any disadvantage!

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Company Parties/Events

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The firm has a great retention rate and has more NQ places than trainees! Obviously it is a firm that is growign!

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • All of the summer students on my scheme got along really well! We always had lunch together and spent a few evenings in various local pubs!

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • It was quite an expensive area but the firm canteen was great and really really cheap!

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • There were a lot of different pubs to choose from!

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • We were invited to get involved in any sporting activities that were going on and also to attend any pro bono events! The firm wide summer party also fell during my placement which was a great way to meet a lot more people!
