The Role
I was a Design intern working in the Studio Engineering teams and in the Advanced Programs studio. I highly enjoy my placement, especially the collaborative atmosphere in the studio and the creative aspect of the job.
The Research studio is a collaborative and creative environment, where I was able to take the initiative to lead the development of a design concept from the initial idea to building and testing a prototype. I became an 'expert' towards this concept and felt very valued.
The managers and supervisors and highly passionate and available. They were all keen to get me involved in as many projects as possible.
There are times when I felt I didn't have much work but others when I had lots. I could take initiative to get involved in multiple projects and be as busy as I chose to be.
For most projects, I carried out simple benchmarking research to support a concept, but for other I was heavily involved in developping the design concept, organising meetings with the engineering community to assess feasibility and I got funds to prototype and test a particular concept.
My degree is aerospace engineering, so it has few links to automotive design research. I got the internship mostly based on my personal interests in art and design.
The Company
Great - very friendly, collaborative and creative. flat structure and a chance to get involved in everything.
Very well - I was staying in halls of residence with other interns which was very well organised. Good communication with HR Great managers
Got funds to develop a design concept Recieved no specific training due to the short length of my placement
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
The company is growing and hiring. I was offered a graduate position.
The Culture
Great - 150 interns lived together in Halls.
3 times cheaper than London
Coventry itself is horrible so thank god I was living with 150 interns. Leamington is nicer but more expensive.
Yes - the ELS scheme gives you the opportunity to spend 250 pounds on any activity outside of work.
