The Role
The placement was enjoyable and a worthwhile learning experience. The early starts and working hours were a struggle at first but once I had settled into it. The work in general was enjoyable and there were plenty of experiences available such as taking part in the landrover experience and attending an LG tech show. Furthermore the colleges I worked with provided an enjoyable work environment.
I feel that as we worked together for longer periods of time as my skills improved I was valued more and from the beginning my projects were taking some of the workload off my colleagues. By the end I was providing project reports which were appreciated and valued. I also developed certain skills not closely associated with the role which were valued by the other employees.
My supervisor/ placement mentor provided close support on the project guidance and was always available for support if it was really required. As I worked through projects supporting other team members they were always happy to provide support in specific knowledge gaps or show direction in which the project should move. My actual manager was present however did not provide much support as it wasnt required. Weekly meeting with my supervisor made communication easy.
Generally very busy having several projects to work on with set completion dates to which i had to adhere. Furthermore I would be emailed analysis work on a regular basis as my supervisor required specific tasks accomplished in a small time scale. It was therefore important to remain flexible with the work plan. However during plant shut down things slowed down and I only had my personal project to research which turned into a bit of a drag.
From the get go I was measuring on track data which was used in analysis to determine how issues would be resolved. Therefore straight away I had responsibilities to carry out my work efficiently and correctly as it was all part of the problem solving projects. As the placement continued I would carry out my own projects in measuring, analyzing and writing reports on the findings to my supervisors. The work had an impact on production.
The skills are vital for both furthering my education and for future job searches. The skills look good on paper and are great material for interview discussions. Furthermore the problem solving criteria, data analysis and project work will very likely be essential towards my future career.
