The Role
I love it, I look forward to the summer all year
I felt like I was treated as any other engineer, like a graduate
My supervisor and my manager were super busy (and often not on the same site as me), but usually I could get hold of him eventually, I was mostly allowed to get on with my work and run my own component but I could have done with more guidance initially, my department didn't have a manager for most of the placement, this gave me a fantastic immersion.
I had easily 7h of work per day, I was busy on my component, the downtime was mostly travelling.
I was responsible for the door cladding on a new car line, as a lead engineer. I felt like I was one of the team, it was a fantastic learning experience, I had a snap shot of what my job will be like when I graduate. I had support from my team on CAD and other stuff.
Everything I learn is helpful, I feel I can apply it. It makes my work seem worthwhile. I would recommend it to anyone.
The Company
Genial, it was a nice place to work, but sometime stress levels spiked
Some things could have been clearer, it would have been nice to have organised events (lunches in the first week, induction meetings) for undergrads at all sites (incl Uni of Warwick) not just Whitley/Gaydon because its hard to meet people, particularly if you don't live at liberty, if I didnt have friends already from attending Warwick Uni it could be lonely. Perhaps a welcome lunch on campus/site in the first week.
£118 Employee Learning Scheme I got an introduction to CATIA, a drive in the Jaguars round the proving ground and they payed for advanced driver training
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Very, I would like to work there long term
The Culture
Yes, particularly if you live in liberty point
