Everyone was so welcoming and friendly from day one!

I was given real research pieces based on work the firm was carrying out at the time. I was also involved in daily activities that would be typical of a trainee.

Everyone in my practice area was lovely, happy to help out if I had an issue. I was buddied with a trainee who went out of her way to help me with any task I was given, providing me with sources to read on my research piece and showing me examples of typical documents within the practice sector.

I had great exposure to two practice areas and had the opportunity to hear presentations and a Q&A from every area within CMS which gives real insight into how the different areas of law operate outside of university. I also gained invaluable commercial awareness, both in my research pieces and from my group project.

Daily activities were communicated to us in advance, as well as fun social activities.

As previously stated everyone in the office was very helpful and friendly. I felt a welcomed part of the team from day one.

Before completing the summer placement I wasn't sure that I wanted to be a solicitor. I really gained insight into the life of a solicitor, the hours, how the work differs in practice from theoretical learning at uni. Subsequently the insight reassured me that it is a job I want to do.

There were many social activities including lunch on the first day with trainees in Edinburgh, then drinks, a lunch with the practice area you were working within.

I would fully recommend completing a summer placement with CMS. The staff are all friendly, welcoming and helpful. The office atmosphere is hard working but pleasant. I gained real insight into being a private sector solicitor and found out it was something I definitely wanted to do. I also developed my commercial awaren as substantially which is a huge bonus!
