The Role
The placement was very enjoyable, involving working in a wide range of roles and experiencing many parts of the business. Enjoyed a lot of insight into how the business operates.
Colleagues were usually friendly and accommodating, however it can be difficult to effectively contribute with such little experience.
I had a very involved supervisor who was active in keeping me engaged. The graduate team and buddy system was also very useful and I had no problems starting off, despite a complex job. This varied manager to manager, however.
Varied depending on the day; the majority of the time I was engaged and contributing positively. Some down time and some rushes, but that's to be expected given the nature of the job.
Mostly as an 'understudy' to my manager, I took responsibility for my own work, and was as independent as possible under supervision.
I learned so much during only 3 months. In terms of degree, I now understand design for manufacture much better. In terms if future, it was a real insight into the working world and the challenges of the workplace that go beyond simply the tasks at hand.
The Company
Everyone was generally friendly but mostly kept to themselves/ small groups. Mostly what you would expect from a normal office atmosphere.
Other than the odd little thing, the placement was generally well thought out and communicated to us. Events ran mostly on time and feedback was appreciated.
I would say I received a large amount of training simply required to complete the job.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
Hoping to return for the graduate scheme in summer.
The Culture
With many young staff, a social scene was available if desired.
Living costs were reasonable.
N/A
Graduates organise activities between themselves. Enjoyed some team building and charity work which the company encourages.
