The Role
The internship was a great experience that provided me with valuable insights into both the bank and the division. The programme was well structured and various networking events were also organised, which allowed interns to connect with not only other analysts but also with senior management.
My colleagues were welcoming, approachable and had a genuine interest in ensuring that interns felt valued. Furthermore, the HR team was very supportive and went to great lengths to accommodate interns.
My line manager and buddy supported me throughout the internship and frequently discussed the progress made. Other colleagues in the bank were also always available to answer questions which was much appreciated.
The overall workload was great as my team made certain that I always was challenged without being overwhelmed. However, I also believe that interns themselves should demonstrate a willingness to learn and succeed.
I was given more responsibility than expected and worked on several pieces of analysis that was used to make credit risk decisions. Hence, the internship provided me with a good flavour of "the life of an analyst".
The credit and technical skills that I developed will definitely be useful going forward, as will the understanding of how a bank such as BAML manages credit risk.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office was positive and collegial, which created an environment where I felt comfortable. Most colleagues were also sociable and easy to get to know.
The overall internship was well organised and contained various events throughout the summer. Moreover, the initial week of training was a great opportunity to brush up your technical skills and become familiar with other interns.
The bank arranged several seminars, primarily during the first half of the internship, that covered areas including but not limited to teamwork, communication skills and career advice.
