The Role
I really enjoyed the placement due to the people that I work with, I do however feel I was given a little too much work to do for a placement student which gave me hardly any time to fill in my placement work book. Sometimes it got slightly stressful as there was a lack of staff.
I really felt like a member of the team, the staff were welcoming and we all got on really well. Also there was a sense of team work in the pharmacy and I was offered help. I felt like my place in the pharmacy was valued and that was a good feeling; which made it sad when leaving.
I was given lots of support my the dispensers in the store, however due to the manager being away I was not given any management support while at my placement, which limited my learning.
The store was very under staffed so constantly busy all day. Most days it was hard to fit in all the jobs that needed to be done let alone get any of my placement work book done.
I was given a fair bit of responsibility. I was left to run one part of the pharmacy a lot of the time as well as sorting out the orders. On some occassions I was left to run the shop and dispensary with just the pharmacist with me, which got stressful as I didn't know all of the systems lloyds use.
I learnt what it was like working in a pharmacy full time and the day to day running of the pharmacy. However a lot of the skills I had already learnt from previous jobs. I learnt about some new drugs which was interesting and the ordering of special items I will take with me.
The Company
There was a good atmosphere everyone got on well, some staff worked harder than others which caused some fustration but generally everyone got on well and we had a chat and a laugh while getting the jobs done and working hard.
There was no really placement set up as the manager was not there. The dispensing staff were really helpful if i asked to see something or know something. However there was no time available for me to complete the placement work that I needed to complete. Also I had no set tasks set out for me to do I was therefore left to follow the same jobs every week. due to lack of staff I found it difficult to get out and do any of the placement work that was set for me.
The dispensing staff really helped to help me when i asked questions. Due to no manager I wasn't given any instructions to do anything in particular. Therefore I felt that I helped the company more than they helped me as I followed out tasks I had learnt from previous jobs. I felt that my skills helped them as they were so under staffed.
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I really enjoyed my placement and working in a busy store next to a surgery was really interesting. However it would depend on what other pharmacies could offer in comparison to lloyds. The dispensing team didn't want me to leave and said I should talk to management about my future with lloyds.
The Culture
I saw one other placement student for a couple of minutes apart from that there was no social scene available to compare placement experiences, which was a shame because I would have been interested to see how people felt their placement went. So maybe a social networking site in the future would be good or a set event.
I didn't really socialise in the area I worked in, I worked a lot as I had other jobs as well at the time. There were good shopping and eating facillities available for breaks.
There were some bars in the areas that I worked in but I never used any because I didn't go out really during my placement time as I didn't feel I should turn up to work after being out the night before.
There were no activities out of work to get involved in with the work colleagues. I went home and carried on with my normal activities such as work and seeing my friends and family I would normally see.
