    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my internship as I got the opportunity to work on a worthwhile project that had an effect on the business but at the same time I was always given tasks that kept me busy. I was also pleasantly surprised with the high amount of responsibility that I was given from day one.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • I felt very valued by my colleagues. I was never made to feel that because I was only there for 3 months that I was in some way less important than everyone else in the office. I was not given menial tasks yet a valuable project and had been given the responsibility to even represent my manager for a meeting which made me feel appreciated and a valid member of the team.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • The support provided by manager was very regular and helpful as this ensured that I could improve during my placement having been provided with guidance. Whenever I submitted anything I was provided with not only what I did well but also how I could improve for next time. My other colleagues were always happy to answer any queries I had which was also very beneficial.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Most days I was busy as I had my main project that I worked on throughout my placement and I would get one-off and ad hoc tasks to complete as well that made my work more varied. There were some days that were less busy which is understandable as sometimes completion of a task depended on other people but this gave me an opportunity to work on some of the training and learning courses.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a fair amount of responsibility. Given the fact I was only an intern I did not expect to get very high amounts of responsibility however, I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of responsibility. I was given the opportunity to attend high level meetings and even representing my manager who was unable to attend in my final week.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I believe the skills I developed over the three months will prove more beneficial to my future career rather than being very specific and helping me with my degree studies. Being immersed within a corporate environment will assist me in my future career as it helped develop many valuable skills.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • The general atmosphere in the office was great. Everyone was very friendly and there was a sense of unity and inclusion.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The internship was well organised as on day one I received my timetable for the week which was full of meetings that ensured I got to know the business and team very well. Moreover, the project I was assigned was fully prepared and explained to me from the start, thus everything was in place for me when I arrived.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I was very happy with the development and training provided by the company. I was even given the opportunity to go on a training course that was very useful. The resources for personal development that could be completed during any free time and at home were very helpful and showed that JLR really value the development of its employees.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Staff Sales/Staff Shop

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The future employment prospects are very appealing to me as I thoroughly enjoyed my internship over the summer and I would like to work for and get to know another finance department within the company. If the company take on graduates in 2016, I would be offered a place without having to go through the application process from the start which is fantastic.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I lived alone in my university accommodation from 2nd Year as my placement was on my university campus so I did not experience the social scene. However, I know that the majority lived together in one building in Coventry and I heard a lot of them enjoyed this experience.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • I lived in my university accommodation that was already purchased under my contract for my 2nd year of studies so i did not have to incur many additional costs relating to accommodation.

    5/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I only went out once with my fellow interns but for me this was more of a way to get to meet new people rather than to get to know what the nightlife was like. Nevertheless, the night out was good fun.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, there were plenty of extra activities that made the internship more enjoyable but also meant that i got to know my team more. Activities included evening dinners and also a match of rounders between two departments which was a great way of spending time with colleagues outside of work.
