    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Enjoyed the summer placement to a large extent. One clear major project for 3 month undergraduate placements usually, with many sub projects and additional work given along the way. Great company to work for, plenty of different departments and fields to experience and get a taste of in the short time.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • From day one, my team and colleagues always made me feel welcome. Very easy to join into part of a team, and get quickly up to date with happenings. Types of work given (simple, day-to-day work to big projects) are always valued by the team and made me feel that my contributions were worthwhile

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Plenty of support throughout the placement – one immediate line manager and a supervisor assigned for the placement, supervisor kept touch on day to day basis and gave assistance whenever possible. If not around, other colleagues of team (even seniors) were highly knowledgeable and assisted me if I needed any support.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • In general very busy for most part of the placement. Initially lots of attending meetings & familiarisation with business, then given work to do on a daily basis. Occasions where I was pushed for time to complete my work, but also had occasions with nothing much to do for a few days. But that is to be expected in a major company.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • Treated as a regular employee and given proper work to contribute to the team and projects – given a wide range of work – some mundane and simple, some with higher responsibility involved such as contacting and arranging meetings with other people and getting information etc. Also involved in individual projects throughout placement.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Learnt a wider range of project management and project planning skills that I was not very familiar with before – these skills are very useful if I join another major company in the future and become part of a project. Time management, responsibility, initiative, quick thinking ability, analytical skills etc. were also improved during the placement and have been useful thus far at university and likely in the future.

    4/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • A very friendly and inclusive atmosphere – lot of mingling and communication between teams made this easier – networking between different levels of people within the organization. People always willing to help despite being busy at times – different teams had different deadlines, hence usually have people rushing around – but always trying to keep a positive attitude.

    5/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Very well organized and scheduled throughout – clear directions from day one with my supervisor on the overall aims of the placement and discussed personal objectives as well. Major projects given, and day to day work comes and goes along with that. Couple of other smaller projects added on through the course of the placement. Formal review at end, but plenty of unofficial progress reviews and feedback sessions along the way.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Company invests a large amount in training and development of all its employees, similar for interns as well. Given training day and e-learning courses online to complete. Also had tours of the manufacturing sites arranged and access to a wide range of expensive software tools to complete pieces of work.

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    Healthcare/Dental

    4/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • High prospects of returning to a graduate job within the organization following the completion of a successful placement. If still at university a second placement is very likely. The opportunity to return to this organization, along with the flexibility to shuttle between departments that you prefer, is very appealing to most interns.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Most placement students stayed in accommodation organized by JLR near Coventry, hence easy socialising after work and lift sharing to work with others. Also had social events organized by team during placement - this varies based on the department and team.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Affordable accommodation in student halls in Coventry, subsidised by JLR for the 3 month interns, Decent socialising scene - student bars and restaurant offers, gyms, cinemas etc. relatively cheap.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Only one club in Coventry, average. Nice bars with many deals and restaurants with food deals nearby the accommodation. Not many near the company.

    4/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Plenty of activities organised by the undergraduates themselves after work, also have access to Graduate sports societies and activities.

    4/5
