The Role
I enjoyed it - the work was interesting and reasonably relevant to my studies, the staff were engaging. At times the work got tedious and a little dull, but that was to be expected in a research environment.
I felt valued. The senior staff took time to work through questions and talk to me, the more junior staff were great fun to talk to.
At times I felt a bit unsure of what to do, but for the majority of the time my supervisor was at hand to point me in the right directions.
Most of the time I had plenty of work today. Most of the work was self-motivated, so it was for me to find things to do. If I was stuck, however, there would always be someone to point me in the right direction.
A little - they didn't expect me to get very far with my project but were very happy for me to work in my own (relevant) direction.
Whilst not directly relevant to my studies, I learnt a lot of research skills in my time, as well as understanding more about a corporate environment.
The Company
Calm, good for working. Mostly only one or two people there, but always good for a brief chat.
Very - they were experienced with interns and knew exactly what they were doing.
A lot. The internship including cycling, safety, library training, as well as allowing me to develop my own skills through the internship process.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Limited, but only because it isn't directly related to my field. The experience of working with the company was great.
The Culture
Yes. To be honest, I didn't engage in it much, but they frequently went to films/town and were always fun to talk to.
Expensive, but heavily supported by the company. Socialisation isn't too expensive, but living is.
I couldn't really comment as I didn't go out all that much. Cambridge is hardly the hub of revelry.
There were some other activities organised, dancing, gliding, punting, etc. but most were organised by employees rather than the company.
