The Role
I enjoyed my placement as I was given the oppurtunity to do so much, for example councelling patients with their medicines as well as sorting out prescription related enquries which involved phoning the GP. furthermore, i was given alot of responsibility which made my placement enjoyable as well as challenging. For example, sorting out the monthly promotions, and dealing with enquiries that the pharmacist needed to know by phoning theNPA for example. furthermore, i was given the oppurtunity to observe the services the pharmacy offered that gave me a great insight to what difference a pharmacist can make in a patients life.
I enjoyed the people i worked with as they were very helpful. i learnt alot from them, and the staff were very approchable and willing to help me if i needed any help. My tutor was very good, and i learnt a great amount from her. She would always help me with any queries i had and always ensured she would make time for me at times when i needed to learn different things. overall the staff were very friendly and felt as though i was part of the team. At one point in my placement i got involved in promoting weekly sales, by setting up tasks and goals for the other members of staff.
My manager was a great pleasure to work with. the amount of support she gave me was incrediable, as she would always make sure she had time to teach me. i appreacited how she would ask me if there was anything in particular that i had wanted to learn, rather than her setting me a load of tasks, as this way i was able to ensure i was learning what i had wanted to within the placement. Overall, my manager was very supportive.
I enjoyed my placement as it was at a busy store and therefore there was always something to be done, as i am a person who enjoyes to keep busy. On a daily basis, I would help with the morning scripts which occupied alot of the time and I was always able to learn so much from those scripts. And other times, i would be dealing with queries, helping with OTC sales, dealing with special orders. I truly did enjoy the work i was given as i was given a great oppurtunity to do so much.
I felt i was given a great responsibility and was amazed at how much i was able to do. for example, dealing with prescription related queries allowed to to deal with the GP and nurses in order to do best for the patient. I was also given the oppurtunity to manage the other staff as i was given the responsibility to train the healthcare assistants on new medication coming into the market.
this placement was truly an invaluable experience, as i developed my leadership, teamworking and communication skills. due to the taks set, i was truly able to learn so much that will help me when i go back to university. for example, coming across new medication and ensuring i learnt about it will help me with a few modules next term.
The Company
the atmosphere was very professional and very friendly. as mentioned before the staff were very approachable and friendly and were always willing to help me. however, at times one member of staff would not co-operate at times, which made the atmosphere sightly less professional. but overall, the manager led her team extremely well and would ensure that she would help all her staff at any time they needed.
Excellent, a work booklet was given and we were sent on an induction day on our first week! i really enjoyed the induction day as it was so well orgainsed and it allowed us to meet other summer students. the work book was very good as well as it gave us the chance to build a CPD file.
Alot, as we had our own personal tutor who would help me at any time i needed. she was friendly and taught me alot. we were given a booklet to complete, and my tutor would always help me with that booklet. there were alot of instore sources that i could use for example, calculation books that would help me out too.
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
I have been offered a pre-reg placement with the compnay! :)
The Culture
There was a pre-reg student working at the store, and i was the only summer student. but the pre-reg student would always help me with my work as well, and he have me alot of insight into how the pre-reg year at the company would be. he would also help me with any queries i had.
To commute to work cost me £37 a week, which was average.
I worked at a village where there was not an oppurtunity for a nightlife!
Not really, but i believe once you are a permenant member of the company there are several activities to be involed with!
