The Role
The shop was busy so I was kept working all day which made the time enjoyable and it went in very quickly.
I got along very well with all members of staff and felt like my work was appreciated especially nearer the end of my placement when i was able to undertake most tasks on my own.
Although the shop was very busy and there was little time to stop and talk, I felt I was able to ask both the pharmacist and other members of staff at any point if I was in need of assistance. The pharmacist also took me aside on 2 occasions to discuss my progress and to raise any issues.
I was always helping out in the shop doing whatever tasks were of highest priority as the shop was so busy.
As the shop was very short staffed I felt like I really was given the chance to take on responsibilities and managed to do a lot of things on my own.
I felt that I have gained a lot of practical skills and more life skills for example dealing with customers and interacting with staff. I dont really feel that you can learn these things at university and this placement puts what you have learnt at university into perspective.
The Company
All of the staff were very experienced and did enjoy their jobs however I sensed that they felt very pressured due to staff shortages through holiday times and people being off sick.
The branch I was positioned at were not used to having summer placement students so I dont know if they knew what to expect me to do. Although they do get pre reg students so I felt like I fitted in fine.
The Lloyds training pack was helpful as the scenarios and points that I worked through really made me reflect on my time there and prepared me well for the lloyds pre reg interview.
The fact that lloyds often make offers of employment to pre registration students is appealing.
The Culture
I travelled from another town to work at my branch so I did not experience the social scene in Cumnock
This does not really apply to my placement experience.
Very small town so not much nightlife was present.
No, but I wasnt really looking for extra activities as there are plenty where I live.
