The Role
I learnt a huge amount during my time with JLR, the workload was interesting, challenging and varied. I enjoyed working with my team.
I got on extremely well with the majority of my colleagues, and I always felt that my input was valued
My manager was brilliant and provided all the guidance I needed when I asked for support. I was able to work independently without having being checked up on, but it always felt like help was available when I needed it.
The workload of my team varied hugely on a weekly basis depending on requirements. Over the 12 month placement I probably averaged 8 or 9 hour days, with some weeks much busier than others. I only occasionally felt like I didn't have much to do.
From 3 or 4 months in, I was given responsibility on a regular basis, presenting my work to senior members of staff.
Whilst some of the things I learnt may have been JLR specific, the majority of the skills I learnt feel as if they will be easily transferable to other areas.
The Company
In general people worked extremely hard, but there was always a lighthearted atmosphere, with a good mixture of characters
I had no problems with the organisation of the placement, everything ran very smoothly. The internal JLR career development program aligned well with the assessment criteria of my university
I was able to go on any development programs I felt would be beneficial to me, and several were suggested by colleagues that I found useful. All of these skills will be transferable to university and future employment (e.g. Excel training)
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
I'd definitely return to JLR in the near future
The Culture
We had a team offsite once per quarter, with additional social events throughout the year.
Coventry is extremely cheap to rent in, and socialising in Birmingham and Coventry felt reasonably priced (compared to Manchester)
The Coventry nightlife is slightly questionable, but 20 minute trains link to Leamington and Birmingham
A few people played football together, and the graduates met up on a fairly regular basis for drinks
