    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed the insight. There was a wide range of different workshops including: work shadowing, legal sector talks, case studies and a greater insight into what makes the firm unique. The people at Hogan Lovells were friendly, approachable and answered all questions in a detailed manner. This does not just include the legal employees but the catering staff, graduate recruitment and reception.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt extremely valued during my placement. I felt a bit lost when I arrived at the firm but my mind was put at rest. The staff were so friendly, gave good direction and were very polite. During my work shadowing in the pensions sector, the trainee I worked with asked my opinions on his work which made me feel valued.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • Every single session at Hogan Lovells was accompanied with guidance and support. Michelle Ruddle from graduate recruitment appeared to lead the programme and was always around for support/guidance. Michelle was also keen to ask any questions we had and I found her a great support for both guidance and support.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • A lot of the activities required us to work in teams which I was initially worried about. However, I soon found myself having more confidence and being able to express my ideas which made me feel like a valued member of a team. I also now have more confidence talking to people in higher positions as well as my peers.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • At the beginning of the programme we were provided with a schedule that listed all the sessions and the times. This was a great document to refer to. I don't recall any session not going to plan and they all started on time. Even on the day visit to Vodafone, Hogan Lovells arranged our transport and the taxis were already waiting for us when we arrived.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • I'd describe the general atmosphere as exciting. I really enjoyed hearing how passionate all the employees were about their work and the firm. However, whilst the experience was fun, I could definitely see how much hard work goes into the firm. This wasn't just demonstrated by the legal sector but the recruiters and catering staff too.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I felt that the firm invested an awful lot of time to encourage our development. The best example of this being graduate recruitment running mock interviews with us . The interviews were very thorough and the feedback that we were given was even more so. In addition, the work shadowing also gave us chance to improve our employability;

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The work shadowing and panel discussions were the best insights into how the typical day , should there be one, works at Hogan Lovells. In addition, after work shadowing, we were taken for lunch at the firm's cafeteria which was another valuable insight into exactly how the average day goes.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • My travel, accommodation and 2/3 of my meals were paid for.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were endless opportunities for networking. Every single lunch we had there was an opportunity to network. In addition, there was also a panel discussion which included three trainees who gave us their very honest views on the firm and their work. We also had plenty of opportunities to meet the team responsible for citizenship within the firm and of course, graduate recruitment.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • 3/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • There are clearly plenty of fun events for the employees at Hogan Lovells. We were even invited to drinks at the firms bar, where we met with trainees who have us an even better ideas of what they do in their spare time and which areas of London are best to socialise.
