The Role
Overall the placement experience has being enlightening. Having the level of exposure to the fast paced nature of Aldi was excellent and extremely rewarding and second to non. Your opinions are valued and you feel you make a real difference with the tasks that are set.
During my time working in store everyone was supportive and friendly, offing advise on how to progress further but would not be afraid to tell me when there were things that I needed to improve. During my Trading role I felt extremely valued by the entire team and felt part of it from day one. The Directors were approachable and were crucial in my development.
During store time I was set goals and objectives by the management team. Although some aspects were challenging, it was with their guidance that I was able to progress quickly. My personal Director mentor was brilliant and would support me on any matters that were of concern. Adding to this during my Trading role all of the support I needed was given to me overall I was given a lot of support to ensure I could maximise my full potential.
It can be expected at Aldi that you will be busy! However as in all roles it will dependant upon the task in hand as to how busy you actually are. Store time can be hectic, however this shouldn't be seen as a negative as you get a true feel for the retail industry and the fast paced nature allows you to excel quickly!
I cannot question the level of responsibility I was given. Being able to manage teams early on was daunting at first however, the management will ensure you are fully prepared to take on the level of responsibility required. I was given a lot of responsibility in my trading role and would assist on major projects over peak periods such as Christmas and would often be solely responsible for many elements of stock distribution. If I hadn't performed my role correctly some lines would not have had sufficient levels in store to cope with demand!
I have learnt skills that I will hold for life. I have learnt key management skills, presentation skills and now hold a new level of self confidence. The training I received had taught me a new level of dedication to the any task that I am faced and has assisted me no end in my final year.
The Company
The atmosphere was positive. All the staff were very approachable and friendly. Directors were always willing to help and would often have a chat with you to see how you were getting on.
The placement was set up very well and was clearly structured at the start. However, my time did differ from that of the outlined plan and I was placed in a Trading role.
The company invested a lot in teaching you key management skills and look to build the required skills for a potential Area Manager position in the future.

Very good! There is an opportunity to be offered a future position as an Area Manager if you fit with the company and the company fits with you.
The Culture
The placement students in our region lived together in private houses. This was a great experience and allowed us to become friends throughout the year and we would socialise quite often. There was also a national Aldi placement event held in Manchester twice during the year, where all placement students met in a Marriot hotel and stayed overnight. This was a brilliant event that allowed us to share our experiences with one another and socialise. The company had put on fully expensed meals and drinks!
Not that expensive
There are a few pubs and clubs in Swindon.
