The Role
Work started off slowly but was glad of it as I was relatively new to the sector I worked in, soon picked up and I very much enjoyed what I was doing.
Was given the same work as Graduate employees for much of my time there, felt a part of the team once I had settled in.
All the senior staff (Directors/ Senior Engineers) I met were notably patient and friendly, even when I was taking time with some tasks. Business manager was fantastic from day one and always seemed aware of what I was/ how I was doing.
There were some days in between deadlines that were quieter than usual, but otherwise the work load was fairly consistent.
No huge levels of responsibility were placed especially on me, but I did still feel that I was counted on to deliver what was asked of me.
A very valuable working experience, which introduced to a lot of new things that had not been covered by my degree beforehand, though how much I have used since then is minimal.
The Company
Very sociable and inclusive, felt that the work environment was relaxed as long as the work carried out was of a high quality and professionalism.
I was introduced to a Mechanical Design team and was left to work with them, always had work to do, was never a moment where I felt useless.
Site visits and software introductions were made available from day one. No professional software training classes, though I was learning from professionals on a casual basis. Would have said it was more the colleagues who invested time in me, as opposed to the company.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
The range of sectors on offer is the main reason I find this company particularly interesting, the size of the company and international aspect are the most attractive points.
The Culture
Certainly. Other Interns were very sociable and I am still in contact with some of them. Was lucky to be in a BEL group that had monthly social drinks, and went to the Summer Party organised by the Graduates.
Lucky enough to live at home for the duration of this placement as the rail networks allowed for a reasonable length of commute, though the rail tickets were obviously not cheap. Socialising was obviously expensive in the London area, but felt that the wage reflected the location.
Plenty of pubs and bars, still need to return to the area to try them out.
Not widely advertised but would have joined had I been at the company longer.
