The Role
Started well but began to drag towards the end of the 10 weeks.
Brilliant atmosphere in the office - really felt my skills were valued by those around me.
Some level of support when needed.
If anything a lack of day to day work. When I first mentioned this my line manager was very surprised and seemed to think I had been doing a very large amount already!
Documents which I wrote got sent to the client and I felt like a responsible member of the team.
Being in an office environment is certainly important life experience, but in the shorter term some of the programming skills I have picked up will also be useful for my units next year.
The Company
Everyone quite social although in a male dominated environment little conversation. Frequent Pub lunches/office socials
Generally, very well organised. However I was unlucky with where I ended up being placed, and felt like others had a better deal, and a better internship, with the company.
Some training in what I was doing.
Company Parties/Events
They say 75% of interns get offered another placement or a job, but I doubt I will return.
The Culture
Felt slightly isolated with the majority of interns being in London, but when events were organised they were well run and everyone was friendly.
Train was £7 a day which was alright, local places for lunch very reasonable.
Wouldn't really want to go out in Guildford much when I live in London!
I got the feeling if I was on a longer placement I could have joined Sports/Social clubs but over the summer there wasn't really enough time.
