The Role
Great experience, learnt alot of new skills and enjoyed the work very much.
I felt that my work was appreciated by my colleagues and was of importance to the company, as opposed to just some work to keep me busy.
Colleages were very helpfull and provided support when needed.
Was kept very busy with plenty of work to do on oen main project, which included creating documentation and a presentation.
I was the only person working on this project, however I was not isolated during my placement.
My programming and presentation skills have improved dramatically. I got to explore and learn various new programming languages, software and designs I had never worked with before.
The Company
Everyone would get on with their work, however the atmosphere was somewhat relaxed and occasionaly colleagues would chat to one another or have group discussions.
Very well set up, for reasons which were out of MBDA's control, I started late and worked in a different department. Dispite this I had a project to work on from the start and plenty of access to computers (three computers with four screens at one point all at the same time).
Very training was done as its expected for you to know programming if your going for a software position. They did however give me the experience to work on a real world project which I did receive support for.
I have already been offered another summer placement in the software department, as I am doing a four year course and still have two years left.
The Culture
Hardly saw any of the other students, we were in seperate departments and my placement buddy never introduced me to any of them.
Difficult to say as I stayed at my uni house as the placement was in Bristol and I go to Bristol University. As Bristol is a city I would imagine compared to other placements, it is relatively expensive.
Bristol has a huge nightlife, not as big over the summer as the students are gone, however most of the clubs remain open each day and are still very busy on weekends.
None that I was aware of.
