The Role
I enjoyed it, everyone within EY was very friendly from HR through to Partners. I had a range of work and experiences; project wise and working in different locations. However I would have preferred to have more work placement people in my location.
Yes, I felt valued by my team. I was also told how my work fitted in with the larger picture and thanked for it.
I had an excellent Counselor who always was there for me and Line manager who I could ask any question and I knew that the no question was a bad question.
On average, I was very busy. I had a lot of different tasks and responsibilities to juggle, which I struggled with at times. But I preferred that to when I would have my down days.
I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement. From project work to looking after a society sponsorship. It was a lot of fun. I would work on a number of projects for clients, projects internally, chairing meetings and minute taking and also look after societies on campus, alongside arranging student recruitment activities on campus.
Communication, feeling more confident when talking and resolving queries with lecturers. Discipline. to help study and work regularly. Professionalism, looking at difficult problems and resolving them one step at the time and finally organisation, making sure I do everything I want to do and manage to my time appropriately so I can achieve everything.
The Company
The atmosphere was a nice atmosphere. In my section of the office it was very quiet, because a lot of senior people worked there. But in the audit and tax section there was a bit more rapport. At various occasions during the year, there was cake sales and wine evenings which generated more rapport and interaction.
It was very well organised. We were given a specific contact in HR who looked after us, [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyPlacement Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] who was very nice and approachable. We had various events throughout the year from training to evenings out. This was replicated within my office, due to the number of work placement students they have had, they can know what works well and what doesn’t.
EY invested a lot into my training and development. I had a lot of training days with other industrial placement students, on a variety of topics including excel and how to communicate to a range of people. As to my sub service line, I had a number of training sessions to become familiar with it and what it has to offer and on topical issues within our sub service line.

Within EY, there are a number of employment opportunities. Alongside promotions upwards, you can experience other service lines and international experiences. EY is continually growing and expanding and with their Vision 2020, and more and more opportunities become available. Due to seeing the investment in their people and therefore the company I find it a very appealing place to work.
The Culture
In Leeds, there was not as much of a social scene between the placement students due to there only being a few of us. But our sub service team always we were always in contact and when we met up as industrial placement groups, the social scene was very good.
In Leeds, I paid slightly more for my accommodation than what you can this was a personal choice. It is not too expensive with 2- bedroom flats costing £80 p/wk. Socialising, was also not too expensive but was not cheap e.g. beer £4.50 I was able to get involved and do everything I wanted to do.
Leeds has a fantastic nightlife. From concerts, to clubs to quirky pubs Leeds has it all. There is always live music going on somewhere, or a new bar opening up. There are also non-alcoholic events such as comedy nights, concerts, bowling which you can get involved with alongside the vast array of restaurants of every kind.
At the Leeds office they offer netball, rugby and squash club. But within Leeds you can get involved with a number of clubs: netball, running, cycling to name a few. You could do a language courses; the opportunities are endless. You could see the surrounding area: visit York or to the Yorkshire Dales for a nice country walk and fresh air.
