The Role
I had a great time on my work placement. I would highly recommend Eaton as a business to work for, I learnt a lot during the year and was given fantastic support.
I genuinely felt like part of the business rather than someone who was only a temporary resource. Colleagues invested time in me so that I fully understood what I was doing, I was offered lots of advice and it was a great place to learn.
I worked directly for a Finance Director, the support he gave me was great despite how busy he was. He would take me to visit other sites and involve me in decision making. He gave me guidance both technically and on my soft skills and was always there is I needed some help.
Like most jobs this varied from time to time. Early on in the year I had more time, during this period I was able to develop my skills and observe the business. Towards the end however I was very busy on a daily basis, this is probably because I continually wanted to get involved in different aspects of the business.
I was given a lot of responsibility during the year, there were many occasions when I visited other business units and acted as the representative of our business. I was lead some process improvement projects and was given freedom on how to complete them.
I developed many technical competencies mainly including Microsoft Excel, this is a skill that is very useful and I use it alot in my studies. It is also a skill that is looked for by graduate employers. I also developed my presentation and communication skills.
The Company
It was a good a good atmosphere, the people were really friendly. Only downside was that there were not many younger people in the office so didn't socialize much outside of work hours.
It was a great programme, we had an induction event which all the interns attended. This was good to get to know everyone, There was an intern programme manager so there was a constant point of contact if there were any issues.
We had regular training events organised for the interns. These included time management, presentation, finance and project management. I was also given lots of guidance from my manager.

I have been offered a position on the graduate scheme.
The Culture
When we met up for training events there was a great social scene.
It was a really cheap place to live, I shared a flat with a graduate which made it even cheaper. I was able to save a lot during this year.
It was quite remote, nearest town was Gloucester but that isnt a great night out either.
There wasn't alot to do outside of work, the village was quite small. Gloucester is quite close but I rarely ventured there.
