The Role
I very much enjoyed the internship. It exceeded my expectations in terms of how challenging and interesting it was.
I was part of a small team of consultants working for a large UK Energy Retail and felt that I was an important member of the team, contributing valuable work as opposed to menial tasks.
I was given weekly catch up sessions with my advisor, as well as a formal midway review. These sessions were very helpful in allowing me to improve as the internship went on.
I was solidly busy for the whole ten week period and didn't ever feel like I was watching the clock. There was a lot of work to do but that made it more exciting and rewarding.
I was given a large amount of responsibility, interacting face to face with the client from the first week and doing work that was directly fed to senior clients.
I think the time management skills, professionalism, and problem solving skills are very transferable and will help me when I begin work in the coming years.
The Company
The client office atmosphere was ok but the Baringa office itself was much better. It would have been nice to spend slightly more time in this office but, clearly, its important to be on client site for a lot of it.
The internship was well organised, with training and introductions in the first week and dispersed throughout. I was also impressed by the number of sessions the interns had with very senior members of the firm, including at least two hours with the managing director.
We had a couple of training days but most of the learning was through first hand, on the job, experience.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I received a job offer and gladly accepted. It is a fun firm with a big focus on people and culture. I also look forward to more company wide social events (such as the annual summer holiday!)
The Culture
Yes, the group of interns got on very well. After work drinks happened almost every friday which was a great way to bond as a group and meet other members of the firm.
London is pretty expensive to go out in but Baringa are very generous with their social spending so quite often there are free drinks going.
There are many good pubs, bars, and clubs in the surrounding area and you can get to any area of London pretty quickly with Waterloo very nearby.
There could have been more access to sports clubs etc but the company was very good in providing funding for an intern vs company football game. The company was very generous in inviting all of the interns to their summer event which was a weekend festival - not your standard work party!
