The Role
I was given alot of responsibilites from day one which is pleasing. The staff were well trained and friendly and could also give me guidance.
By the end of the placement I was a valued member of the team, and I would have liked to continue after 6 weeks.
My pharmacist tutor was really approachable and knowledgable. He always had time to explain and teach me.
There was rarely a moment where I wasn't busy which suits my personality. The person who interviewed me had assigned me to an ideal location.
I was allowed to do most tasks in the pharmacy, apart from clinical checking a jobs which are needed to be done by the pharmacist themselves. I didn't have to waste time shadowing people which would have been an insult to my capabilities. It was a hands on placement which I relished.
What I learnt on my placement was valuble experience, and nothing like what I had been tought at university. I think summer placements are an important step to take before entering pre-registration.
The Company
The staff worked well as a team with only a few complaints. But overall, it was a happy and smooth working environment.
I was swapped locations a week before which was abit confusing, but when I arrived at the new pharmacy they were expecting me which was a relief. The summer placement folder was well set out and a useful tool, something which I can refer to later in my career.
The file I was provided with had targets and tasks for me to complete which was a good way to develop. It also highlighted the importance of CPD in future practise.
Starting salary is good, but I am unsure of how you can progress.
The Culture
Yes, and they organised a leaving do for me on the last day which was lovely.
Cheap area, but I had to commute half an hour to work which was abit expensive in petrol
Nightlife is good in Manchester, lots of variety.
Not really, but I did go for a drink after my final day with the staff.
