The Role
Everyone at the store was really friendly and made me feel like part of their team. The store was very well organised, and the staff were always willing to help and teach me which was extremely valuable and appreciated. There were always lots of opportunities for me to get involved and experience a variety of tasks within the store.
I developed a very good working relationship with the staff in store and was made to feel like part of the team from day one.
The pharmacy manager and pharmacist always had jobs for me to do. They were keen to help with my workbook, and kept asking if there was anything I wished to discuss. If there were any topics I was unsure of, the pharmacist would direct me to other resources to read for more information.
Even though it was a very small store, they received a lot of prescriptions so it was always very busy.
Having worked for the store previously I was given a lot of responsibility in the dispensary and in the shop and was made to feel like I was part of the team.
My knowledge of drug classes and therapeutic indications and dosages has increased. I have also been given the opportunity to practice any skills learnt at university such as prescription counselling or OTC sales.
The Company
The team were very friendly and helpful, and were always willing to provide me with help if I didn't understand something.
The pharmacist manager sorted out my working hours prior to the placement. When I arrived, my workbook was already at the pharmacy. However, I didn't receive a 'summer vacation student' badge, instead I had to wear one that said 'trainee sales assistant' which sometimes caused confusion to a few customers when I was providing advice on their medications, and it then meant I had to explain my position to them. However, my pharmacist and pharmacy manager did arrange for me to visit another store for the day to experience a bigger store and environment.
The company gave me a workbook to work through, however it was almost identical to the one I completed last year, so it would have been nice to have been given more variety. I also went on a training day at the start of my placement, which enabled me to find out more about the Lloydspharmacy pre-reg training programme.
I have really enjoyed my time at the store and would love to come back and work here again.
The Culture
No other placement students.
I lived at home.
