The Role
there was more work then I expected which was good and the work was interesting and challenging. and a bit of variety as well.
given a lot of real responsibility considering I was just a placement and straight out of University.
everybody was very helpful and friendly and approachable. felt like I could ask for help any time and even if the manager was busy she would still help. the previous placement also stayed longer so I had a longer handover.
First week of the month is super busy absolutely flies by which is good and challenging at the same time. Next 2 weeks is also busy but not hectic. The last week of the month does quiet down a bit giving you a chance to do other work outside of your main workload like extra project or answering queries or process improvement.
fairly a lot. but not too much that I was struggling.
I have learnt and developed so much as a person as well as in my related profession. I have actually seen and used the skills I have learnt in Uni for real work. I have also been exposed to the real working environment and forced to use my initiative and adapt as I have been in positions out of my comfort zone. Overall a lot more business acumen knowledge and how business works. Also developed communications and presenting and speaking skills a lot as they were something that I was weak at the start. Excel skills and I.T skills are also one of the most useful things I have picked up.
The Company
very relaxed and a few banters as well. Did not really feel like an stressful office work environment I was expecting.
pretty good, but it did take me like 3, 4 months to get all my IT issue sorted like access to share drives and stuff.
I did have weekly desk reviews with the supervisor, but during busy times they would be done every 2, 3 weeks. Also set up PDP goals and goals for the end of the placement.
Flexi Time
Above 25 days holiday
appealing
The Culture
there was quite a few of us placement and graduates around 50 in total so had socials every few weeks where we go to the pub and other socials. Also played football every Tuesday. so was pretty good. But the night life is not very good in Peterborough.
fairly cheap.
not much, pretty bad.
yes, I did my first aid training, 6 sigma green belt training, volunteered to work in a local primary school and coached the kids for lego league challenge and robot building. Also represented Caterpillar in a career fair for graduate and placement roles in Nottingham University. Plenty of opportunities to get involved and also the manager is very supportive for you to get involved in extra activities.
