The Role
I did enjoy the work placement. However, I found that the pharmacy I was placed at was incredibly busy. Hence, I didn't get much a chance to learn as much as I could have.
They treated me with respect and were willing to help me when I had no idea of what to do in certain situations.
They did try to help me when I got stuck and when some situations were beyond my handling, they intervened and helped me to sort it out.
The pharmacy was extremely busy as it was in the middle of two surgeries. So I had to learn as I went along.
After spending about 2 weeks, I was left to do a lot of things on my own without being supervised by anyone.
The skills I have gained are very beneficiary as I believe they will help me in the latter future and most especially with my degree as I'm going to my second year and the kind of training I have received will be what most of my 2nd year will be about.
The Company
Workers were funny and active atimes. But lack of motivation from the pharmacy manager at that store left them wanting atimes.
Although I had a booklet, there was no structure to my learning as I had to learn on the go due to the pharmacist not having enough time to spend with me and show me the ropes.
Providing me with a folder was very handful as it helped me to ask questions and allowed for me to do a lot of research especially on the case studies.
I would like to still carry on with a summer placement at Lloyds next year. However, at a different location, nearer to home.
The Culture
There were no other placement students where I worked. It was just me. I think it'll be handy to at least post 2 students at a place. Someone they can relate to as most workers at the pharmacy were of age.
I had to travel to my place of work from home and it cost about £25 for a travel pass per week. I was posted in the very small town of Towcester so there was no chance of socialising.
As I said earlier, Towcester is more of a village than a town, so there was no such thing.
No opportunities. Just work and home. As I had a while to travel back and plus, I was always so tired after each day of work. But I guess that's all part of it.
