    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • It was brilliant - I found the event thoroughly worth while and highly beneficial for what I want to achieve professionally. I actually had fun completing all the activities that were provided for everyone and found them relevant and useful. Everything felt like it served a real purpose and I understood the relevance of each activity that I completed.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt very valued. There were only 30 of us in the Spring Into Deloitte 2 day course, but each person there had plenty of opportunities to speak to staff members and inquire about their own personal interests. We had the chance to meet the Senior Partner of Scotland and Ireland which was highly exciting and really showed how invested in the potential recruits the company really was.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • I wouldn't say I received a huge amount of guidance or support, but that wasn't really the purpose of the event. We were tasked with completing a lot of case studies, where the challenge was to complete them ourselves and then present our findings to the staff members afterwards. We did receive a lot of feedback on the work we completed which was actually more useful than guidance throughout the task would have been.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills that were developed were particularly useful in terms of the Deloitte application process. We received a lot of information about the interview process that is carried out in an attempt to get a summer internship, and through mock interviews and all the case studies that were completed it was possible to really improve the likelihood of success in the interview stage. The skills are also highly useful for classes which base their exams on case studies as the was the primary focus of the 2 days.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight was incredibly well structured. On arrival we all received information that set out the plan for the following two days, and everything flowed together very well, with ice breakers followed by team working projects. We were also given a room in a hotel for the night between the two days, and everyone was made well aware of the time they had to be awake in the morning so the next day's activities could be completed.

    5/5

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was brilliant, all the members of staff that we interacted with were very friendly and helpful. They were more than willing to answer any questions we had about working at Deloitte and the application process. The hotel was fantastic and we were escorted there by members of staff so nobody would get lost. Dinner was also held there which was fantastic and allowed a further opportunity to socialise with members of staff. Overall the atmosphere was great, I'd say it would be hard to improve!

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invested by giving us copious amounts of information about their application process. With the practice of case studies it gave a competitive edge over anybody else applying for the same internship as we were made aware of the sort of answers that Deloitte were wanting to hear. By practicing mock interviews with real interviewers it also allowed real progress. They also invested monetarily in the way that they paid for travel to the offices, and the accommodation overnight which is incredibly generous when you consider that we were not even interns.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • By interacting with members of staff from different service lines, ranging from the most junior employees to senior partners I was able to learn a lot about what it would be like to work in these different service lines. Through discussion with the staff and presentations by them a full insight into the what a full time role within the company would be like - an incredibly positive one.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • It helped a decent amount. This wasn't a particular focus of the event, but the company's culture became apparent through talks with members of staff and from their general demeanor. The event was held in the main office in Edinburgh, which was brand new and very impressive, this showed all attending this event the success the company exudes.

    2/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • It was incredibly useful. As we watched presentations from a number of people from different service lines we were able to understand better what is involved in working in these different departments. By being able to understand what is involved in each service line it made it easier to understand which service line was best suited to me - as I was able to analyse where my skills would be best applicable.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • I was paid for my travel expenses up to a maximum payment of £50. Lunch and dinner were also paid for, as well as a room in a hotel and breakfast paid for. Overall this was incredibly generous considering there were 30 people attending this event, and not one of us were even committed to an internship, or completing any work for the company.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were huge amounts of networking opportunities. Throughout the day we met a huge amount of people and after hearing presentations from them we were able to ask a lot of questions and also introduce ourselves. In the evening we had dinner with a number of staff members, which provided another great opportunity to network.

    5/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • They were excellent, highly informal but plenty of time was allocated for it to mean real and full conversations could be carried out.

    5/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes. This was found out from informal talks with the members of staff. It definitely seemed like a very happy place to work and where everybody got on well.

    4/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Yes absolutely. It was a great opportunity to learn a lot more about the company and about what a job there would entail. From the event I learnt a lot of key skills that have been useful at University and already useful in attaining an internship. From this event I was also able to secure an interview for a summer internship afterwards which was the best thing about it.
