The Role
The staff members were friendly and helpful which made learning new tasks easier and enjoyable. However the learning experience was less organised as there was no time stated in the learning folder, to be spent on the written activities, per day or per week off the shop floor.
Some of the staff members did treat me as a part of their team and delegated me with some responsibilities and I particularly enjoyed being given tasks of responsibility.
I did not feel my tutor provided enough support for learning, either because of lack of time or interest, however I felt that the cluster manager was very helpful in explaining everything and help us in improving anywhere that we could (every Tuesday that she was covering for the pharmacy manager).
Normally the pharmacy was really busy and I felt there was not enough time to learn from mistakes there and then, however on odd ocassions it was really quite, which gave us bit of time to go through our learning folder.
We were not given too much to do on our own, but we did get a chance to go on the counter and face customer queries or make recommendation of a product after discussing with the pharmacist.
I believe all the skills that I have larnt through three summer placements in three years for example, customer service, communication, organisational and team membership skills are for life.
The Company
The staff members were professional and polite at all times.
I thought, it could have been better organised in a way that there should have been time frame to spend on written activities, the counter and the dispensary to get good experience of all the different activities. Also the review should have been formal and written to have complete transparency between the tutor and the student and not just verbal review to the area manager without tutee being present there.
The company has invested in developing learning folders to help students with learning and also providing training and support through summer vacation programmes.
I would like to work for the company in the future, if I get a chance.
The Culture
I made good friends with fellow student and other colleagues.
I didn't really go socialising in the area I worked in as I live quite far from the workplace.
Not sure.
