    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • Yes, on the whole the experience was enjoyable. It was a 3 week internship in consumer business in tha audit service line of Deloitte. The highlight was definitely the people who worked there who were good humoured, intelligent and easy to get along with. I would definitely recommend applying to this internship as I enjoyed the experience.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • On the whole I did feel valued, especially when out working at clients sites. I felt like I was part of a team and we all had our specific parts to complete. I felt that I was actively helping the team and received good feedback on the work I did. Due to this positive feedback and good general vibes of Deloitte and the teams I felt valued.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • There was a really good buddy system in place at Deloitte for the duration of the internship. Also, the fact was that I was working with people who were relatively young, I think almost everyone I worked with was under 30, or there or there abouts, they understood where I was in terms of knowledge, university and so on so were keen to help. The feedback I recieved also showed where I coud've improved which obviously helped.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Main skills I learnt were those of basic audit or accountancy work alongside the professional skills of conversing and getting to know clients, finding out the relevant information from them, as well as general standards required in general professional work. Maybe I did't learn a plethora of new skills valuable for life but the duration of my internship was only 3 weeks so perhaps is understandable.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • Very well structured, had a logical application process which was the standard application plus test and then an interview which lasted about an hour or two. We had a few days of training and general induction to the firm that got us to know the firm and also each other. Although the first two days were slightly quiet once in the office, I had two distinct placements at clients which were well organised and had lots for me to do .

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • Excellent atmosphere. I liked the fact people working there understood what sort of stage of my career and education I was at so could realise the problems I might face. The people were very kind and keen to help me out in as many ways as possible. The other people were really nice to get along with but perhaps I would have liked to have spent a little more time with other interns. The hours (9-5/530) were also very reasonable.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was extensive feedback after every placement from several people I had worked with. Overall, this lead to me getting help in where to improve and develop my skills and become more and more atuned to the job in hand. The amount of training, including technical training, on the first few days was about right for the jobs we were to complete throughout the internship. Too short though for massive training time

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • Excellent insight. I felt as if I were 2 year older and one of the recent graduates working there. I got a great sense of what they did and the atmosphere of the place (at least in the summer months). Also talking to people already full time employees really helped me to learn more about the career progressions within the firm and how one would expect to be treated as they progressed through the ranks at Deloitte.

    5/5

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • Reasonably, but only so much you can ascertain from 2 proper weeks of work, and one of small jobs and inductions.

    2/5

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Extremely valuable. I was able to learn over the course of this internship about the factors that are relevant to me as to where to choose a career path. I was able to understand where the things Deloitte talked about on their website and company brochures really came from. I felt Deloitte would be a good place to work and would recommend it from my stay there.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Over the course of this internship I was paid for my work at the firm. The pay I recieved I felt was very good considering the generally relaxed environments I was working in, the hours and my level of expertise. In all honesty, the level of pay was one of the best things, going home at the end of the day thinking, yes I have earnt X amount of money today. I felt it showed that Deloitte took us interns seriously and wanted to treat us well.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes, the organizers of the internship put on meals, drinks and so on for us to mingle with other interns and share experiences and also mingle with the full time staff if one chose to do so. Moreover, I worked in close teams meaning I got to know the people I was working with organically and well so I could perhaps ask more personal questions than randomly getting to chat to someone having just met them at a networking event.

    4/5

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • Decent. Food and drinks were not short

    3/5

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes a little of which there seemed to be a real variety

    1/5

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • Definitely. I felt on the whole it was relatively straight forward if you are reasonably smart, diligent and willing to put yourself out there a little bit. I felt the hours were very workable and we were rewarded handsomely in terms of pay. Perhaps not paid as much as say those in investment banking, but considering the relaxed atmosphere, and shorter hours, it was still excellent, it also meant there was lots of time to spend in the gym, or with friend and family in the evening.
