The Role
Due to July being an extremely busy period there were many parts of the work i could not be involved in, or have explained to me. Unfortunately, August is extremely quiet! However, when i did have work designated and explained to me i found it engaging.
My colleagues were extremely welcoming and friendly, offering me work when i needed it and explaining it fully. They also took me out for lunch to welcome me which helped to get to know them immediately.
Whilst my manager was highly experienced, he did not seem to give me as much work as i would have liked. however, my other colleagues managed to do so regardless.
I found that some days i had a lot to do, and would work 2 hours over time. Which i am happy to do, it is part of the job. However, sometimes this would occur having had nothing to do in the morning, which seems a bit unnecessary to me.
I felt that i was given a reasonable amount of responsibility in my role. Whilst i may have wanted to do more, i do understand that i had only been there for 9 weeks and there were many things that would have been unsuitable for me to do.
Whilst working in the insurance industry is not at all related to me degree, i feel i have learned a lot from this. Mostly through my internship project, which involved communicating with colleagues across the UK to raise money for a local charity. We then had to produce a report using the correct template. Moreover, this placement has also helped me to understand the correct way to interact with clients.
The Company
My area was full on interesting and enjoyable people. However, because of the dates of the internship, August was quite quiet.
The group project was extremely well organised, and thoroughly enjoyable. I feel that there could have been more communication between my office and the internship programme.
I have completed the required tests that all employees have to carry out, so have certainly developed there. However this was predominantly down to me. I would have liked to have had a meeting with my manager half way through to keep each other up to date.
Company Parties/Events
Unsure at the moment
The Culture
It was tough to organise with everyone, but the fellow interns and graduates have been very sociable, going for lunches and some after work drinks.
Being in London it was very expensive. But this was not a surprise.
Very good, many bars and a couple of clubs. Had to be willing to spend a bit though.
Limited opportunities open for interns
