The Role
I was given a lot of exposure to various areas of the business. I also had the chance to sit in on several high profile client meetings, which was a great learning experience.
I didn't feel like the permanent employees wanted or need me or other interns there. At times there was little work to do, or we felt as though we were an imposition.
My manager was extremely vague about what she expected from my project, and miscommunicated several times to my and other members of my team.
Not very busy at all. Even when I asked for more work to do, this didn't change.
I was not given a lot of responsibility over jobs that would make a significant contribution to the business.
I definitely learned a huge amount about the industry, as well as team work and leadership skills. However these were gained during the additional intern tasks, separate from my day to day role.
The Company
The atmosphere depended on which team I was working with. Generally there was an open friendly atmosphere, but some people were not approachable.
There was a lot of events planned every week for the interns, however the work itself for my role was not well thought out at all.
The firm did invest a lot towards helping us network and develop our presentation skills.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
I would work for BlackRock again, but not in the near future.
The Culture
The internship events helped all the interns bond and I made several strong friendships as a result.
The cost of London is expensive, but as a student here anyway, I was used to it.
London's nightlife is unparalleled.
There was a running club set up and weekly after work drinks.
