The Role
I found the working environment to be extremely friendly, and I always had a good balance of work, which was challenging enough to be interesting to me but not so overly complicated that I could not complete it.
I was easily able to develop a good working relationship with my colleagues, and was made to feel part of the team very early on, even when I had very little experience.
When delegated work I was always given sufficient training to be able to complete it and had regular feedback on work that I did. In addition to this we had feedback meetings with our managers which helped to find out how we were doing overall.
Almost always had a good balance of work and always had time to complete it. There was always an opportunity for me to pick up extra tasks when I was a little short on work.
I was given as much responsibility as was appropriate for someone of my skill level and experience.
My team work and communication skills definitely improved during the placement, as this is something the company focuses closely on,
The Company
There was a good balance between the work and social side in the office. Regular trips to the pub, espeacially on Fridays, but during work hours there was a professional athmosphere.
There was a lot of effort put into organising the overall intern program. We were given projects to do as part of a team that we received plenty of support and training for.
We all took part in three days of training and induction at the London office which was a good way of integrating us all into the company. I also received plenty of training in my office from colleagues, in order to ensure I was able to carry out my day to day tasks.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I have not heard yet, but we have been kept informed through out the process of our progress, and a job offer is definitely within reach of any intern taking part in the placement.
The Culture
There was some form of an after work social every Friday, as well as regular trips to the pub at lunch.
It is not too expensive in Birmingham and most of the time colleagues paid for interns at the pub or at social events, making it easily affordable. Cheap accomodation can also be found in the city in the form of summer lets from university accomodation.
Birmingham has fantastic night life of all genres. There is always something to do in the city, and everything is relatively close together. There is a wide selection of pubs and bars within 5 minutes walk from the office.
There was the opportunity to take part in weekly sports, including badminton, squash, netball and football.
